YOTSUBA&! Volume 1 (Yotsubato (Graphic Novels)) YOTSUBA&! Volume 1 by Azuma Kiyohiko

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
So, I'm kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop on this one. Who the heck is this goofy kid, where did she come from, and why is she so spacey? But in the mean time, I'm cracking up. This is really slapstick humor, from cicadas in the house to getting stuck in the bathroom window. Fun to read.

D Gray-man Vol. 1 (D Gray-man) (in Japanese) D Gray-man Vol. 1 by Katsura Hoshino

I like this one. The bad guy is alarmingly goofy, but the plot is nice and there seems to be many places it could go. I think I'll continue with this one.

Poll Results

Well, the United States has chosen a new president, and you have selected your winner in our latest poll. In answer to the questions, "If it were up to you, who would run for president?" you offered some interesting write-in candidates, including Darth Vader and pikachu, but in the end, you voted for everyone's favorite ticklish monster, Elmo. He was, after all, the only candidate with real experience in politics. Elmo has testified before the United States Congress to support music education for children.

Be sure to let us know your opinion on our new poll concerning music in the library. Check it out on the right of this page. And if you have ideas for other polls, feel free to comment here.

Claymore, Volume 1 (Claymore) Claymore, Volume 1 by Norihiro Yagi

Good start to a series. Seemingly unfeeling protagonist, kind orphan to give her some humanity, and creeping doom in her future. This one should be good.

MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, A (Manga Shakespeare) MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, A by William & Appignanesi, Richard Shakespeare

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
A cool edition of my favorite play from the bard. I love these manga versions because I know the story so well, and they don't generally change it at all, but there are little jokes and a few winks at the reader in the illustration, so there is a little something new. Fun to look at, fun to read.

A fairly complicated start to what looks like a good series. I saw the Anime version on Saturday, and it changed a few things. I think I liked it better.

American Born Chinese American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
Totally cool story. I love the three separate stories, and they came together well in the end, despite being completely disparate at the start. And I have a soft spot for the monkey king. He's so mischievous and totally unapologetic about his faults.

Death Note, Volume 1 Death Note, Volume 1 by Tsugumi Ohba

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is a very interesting premise. A super intelligent high school student is given the power to rid the world of all evil, at least that's the way he sees it. I'm wondering how many people have wondered what it would be like to do away with anyone they thought didn't deserve to live. Unfortunately, things get out of hand pretty fast.

Bleach, Vol. 1: The Death and the Strawberry Bleach, Vol. 1: The Death and the Strawberry by Tite Kubo

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is my first Manga read. I have a feeling I could get addicted to this stuff. I could spend significant amounts of time worrying about when the conclusion will be published. Still, if you don't think too hard, and just get into the grand drama of the thing, and accept every bizarre twist and turn, it's kinda fun. I would welcome any opinions on what to read next in this particular area.
